Firebolt is a long range damage dealing cantrip, which kinda makes using a bow redundant.įrostbite is actually pretty good. This makes you very good against clerics and monsters with regeneration. Chill touch prevents healing in addition to dealing damage.
I'd trade it out for either Chill Touch or Firebolt. Yeah, it affects everyone adjacent to you, but it does piss poor damage and not much else, in addition to alerting nearby enemies who may not have previously known of your presence. Therefore, you can shock enemies that walk by you, keep them from leaving your reach, and keep them from making AOO's on you. Although I could see you using Sentinel, then Create Bonfire on your turn, I'd probably take Shocking Grasp instead, since Shocking Grasp keeps enemies from making reactions (no more opportunity attacks!). I don't particularly like your cantrips, however.Ĭreate Bonfire synergizes well with Sentinel, although you can't cast it as a reaction using War Caster, since RAW states that you must use a spell that targets a creature, not a space. Seems you're going for a battlefield control build. At first level, he can use "Concentration" to maintain the "create Bonfire Cantrip", while Piercing your enemy, boosting its amount of DPS output by 1,2,3 or 4 D8. At level 3, you can basically kill stuff next to you, drop the rapier, teleport the bow & shoot arrows, or vice versa. Mainly : the guy use Leather (Studded), Shield and Rapier or Longbow. I am open to other ideas as well.Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I would like your ideas on a Build I'm working on. #5 is neat as well, especially if the DM will allow my armor to be chosen as a Bonded Weapon. Also, Fighters get proficiency in STR and CON Saves, his DEX stat will be very high (helping him there), and he has Advantage on all INT/WIS/CHA saves. I must admit: #4 looks like a very effective character "behind the numbers." The idea of a wisecracking gnome with a rapier sounds like a lot of fun. I really don't like how crossbow is implemented in 5e. If I go with #1, it will be with a bow, not a crossbow. I'm not feeling the need to powergame this character and eek out every bonus I can, but I also don't want to show up with a gimped character who won't be any good.
I'm told there aren't a lot of magic items in this setting, so a +1 weapon isn't a bad choice either. The "best" items I can think of are Mariners Plate (since I can't afford plate mail with my starting gold) and a Headband of Intellect (to offset the MAD of the EK). Here are the ideas I'm kicking around:ĥ) gnome STR based Tony Stark ripoff (named Stony Tark) I've also been granted the choice of one uncommon magic item, and 500 GP for all my stuff. This character will be starting at 5th level. I'm looking for some advice on making a 5e Eldritch Knight.
